Anyone try this?
A friend of mine pointed out one day that he thought the Honda polish had many of the same characteristics that Pledge has (yes pledge interior use only, wood polish, cleaner).
So last week i was cleaning the bike, and was all out of Honda polish/cleaner stuff. So i ran up to Target and picked me up some pledge. Here is what i found...so far.
Pledge doesn't seem to clean the dirt off like Honda Polish, but if the surface is clean, it seems to act and shine the same way. Just like Honda Polish if you put too much on you have to really spread it around and wipe it down to remove the excess. A week later and the bike is still shiny, and it sits in the sun all day while i am at work, she does sleep in a shed at night.
I haven't tried Pledge on my visor, or helmet yet, but at about half the cost of Honda Polish or knock off brand, i will continue to use Pledge until i find a problem, and will report back.

Oh, and i use the orange scented, but i don't think that matters.

Good question, perhaps you can ride behind me, and let me know! I can tell you that it really brings out the character of the exotic woods on the bike:

but seriously, even though i am confident you aren't, the smell seems dissipate almost instantly.
I would caution anyone to try it on a sample or unseen area first, like every product disclaimer advises.

my concern would be the constant UV exposure by leaving the bike out in the sun all day. I'm guessing that since Pledge isn't designed for items that have prolonged sun exposure, that it doesn't have any UV inhibitors.   Over time, I'm thinking the sun will break down the pledge and in the process screw up your finish as well.

Perhaps, i can't find any info on the UV protection, which probably means it has none. Home furniture is also exposed to UV, unless you have UV glass ($$$$). Certainly furniture isn't exposed like the bike would be. However, modern clear-coats have UV protection.
here is a small thread i found just now, they discussed a similar issue:

another thread i found, this time comparing the New Honda Clean with the old: Notice New Honda Clean/Polish doesn't offer UV protection.
OLD CAN (ORIGINAL):
1.The Main banner on the front of the can states "Quickly Cleans,Polishes & Protects entire vehicle".
2.*Lists as being a "Roadside Detailer"
*Polishes paint, Chrome, Glass and Clear Plastic
*Protects Vinyl, Plastic and Rubber
*Blocks U.V. Rays-Reduces Fading and Cracking
*Repels Water-Beads up like Wax
*Anti-Static Properties Reduce Dust Buildup
3. Small Banner on front says endorsed by Honda Racing
4. Back of can states its a "Detailer in a can" for motorcycles and other vehicles. It cleans road grime, bugs, grease, dust, and shipping preservatives without water, leaving a "showroom shine" that helps protect against sun damage, ozone and dirt accumulation.

NEW CAN:
1. The Main banner states "Quickly Cleans, Polishes and protects chrome" -different than old can
2.*Lists cleans road grime, grease and bugs without water-different than old can
*Polishes chrome and plastic-different than old can
*Repels water-different than old can
No where does it state anywhere on the front listing about protecting the vinyl, plastic and rubber or about Blocking U.V. Rays.-different than old can
3. Small banner on front says exclusive Honda formula-different than old can
4. Back of can states it is the ultimate product for moyocycles and other vehicles-different than old can It cleans road grime, bugs, grease, dust, and shipping preservatives from unpainted surfaces without water, leaving a "showroom shine" that helps to protect against ozone and dirt accumulation-different than old can
5. The note under directions states For chrome and unpainted surfaces only. This was not stated on the old can-different than old can

I decided to do a little test and have came up with something that probably is'nt much of a big deal for some. I purposely took my clean bike out on a ride in my area on a road that follows along side of the Delaware Water Gap. My point is....... Its a freaking "buggy" area to say the least. Rode for about 75+ miles up and down the area then home. Let the bike sit in the sun for about 4 hours. Let the bugs cook on, some light water stains and a little splatter of what looked like mud on the lowers. Pushed the bike in the garage for the surfaces to cool down a bit and then cleaned it all up with the NEW can of Honda Polish. It cleaned my bike and helmet just as well as the OLD can. Bugs came off just as easy. Polished things just as pretty. Plastic clear and tinted, painted surfaces and all.......... NOTHING WAS DIFFERENT. So I'm thinking to myself whats the F'en change here. Re-read the cans, everything they have to say............... Heres my conclusion to things. To make the Smog-Nazi's and the Oh my god the Glaciers are melting folk all happy Honda decided to lighten up the product a bit. Seems as if they dropped there UV Blocking properties from the formula and lightened up the "wax" content a bit ( since its processed slightly different to work with the propellants in the can) as opposed to an air trigger type (squeeze bottle) solution. Hence Hondas "non-painted" surface statement and the reason vinyl and rubber are no longer stated as being protected. The paint, vinyl, rubber will all be affected by UV light, cause its un-protected from the Honda Cleaner and Polish in the NEW cans. The bottom line is that I have a nice stock of old and new cans and will continue to use it. No changes here for me. You guys do what you want or need to for a suitable substitute. I'm using the Honda Cleaner and Polish till its all gone. And even then. Ohio will continue to stock and sell Honda Cleaner and Polish since they are not conforming to not selling the stuff. This means that worst case scenario I can still get a case of the New cans shipped directly to my door without a problem. Sorry for you West Coast guys. It seems as if they just started pulling the product from shelves as opposed to selling off remaining stock of the stuff like they are doing in my area.

perhaps i try this next...it has UV protectant:

and by shit i suppose you mean anything that has silicone(fish-eye maker) in it.....like Honda Polish, ArmorAll, Pledge and Plexus. Any painter should take the necessary precautions and prep work when painting an older (non-factory direct) part. I however, always let them know that i have been using a silicone based detailer/wax.

The guardian stuff above does not have silicone, BTW.

Desmo times sells this product. sounds like it's the same stuff as the original honda cleaner.

From the Desmotimes website:

Original Bike Spirits Cleaner and Polish - $5.85 14 oz. (397 gram) can

Original Bike Spirits Spray Cleaner and Polish - $5.85 for a 14 oz (397 gram) can.
When I started riding a few decades ago, I used to use a cleaner called Honda Cleaner. The stuff was the best at removing road grime because it loosened grime and bugs, didn't damage the plastic or paint and wiped clean without leaving a residue. Over the years, I used up my supply of Honda cleaner and had since moved onto other brands in the hope of finding one as good as the Honda Cleaner. Low and behold, I found out that the originators of the cleaner that Honda sold was the Original Bike Spirits brand. The logo even looks similar to the one Honda uses on their branded cleaner. Once you use it, you'll never want to use another brand of cleaner.

good to know extra330, thanks for the 411. I would rather give my coins to Desmotimes then Target....or SC Johnson.

When I wrenched in a bike shop (bicycle) we used pledge to clean the bikes. Took off the greasy fingerprints leaving the bikes looking and smelling (not that I was sniffing other peoples top tubes :D ) nice. I still use it on my bikes, people and gas powered. FWIW  [beer]

I also am a bicycle guy, and between the Pledge, Bike Spirits & PJ1 Super Cleaner (Doesn't remove anything water based, but,  grease, grime & chain lube are no match), it would be a never ending battle.

I do have to say that hitting it with a clay bar & some Ice wax on occasion never hurts.

Black 08 1098S with 17K & it still looks as good as it did new (not that its had any time to fade based on the year, but its seen ALOT of sun).

2 Black Cervelo carbon bicycles R2.5 & R3 with a ton more miles than the moto...still look perfect.
I promise to make better mistakes tomorrow.

There is this stuff from a boat textile supplier called Manart-Hirsch called 210 plastic polish. I just did my windscreen with it, and also the tank and seat cowl. Works really well.
