A Most Magnificent Monster

« on: September 24, 2009, 01:35:47 PM »

My bike was missing the rear cowl when I bought it and replacements are a tad pricey.  It occurred to me that maybe upholstering the back of the seat in matching color might be attractive.  Below is a crude rendition of my idea.  A colleague's father is an upholsterer that has worked on custom bikes as well as anything else that needs it and he has offered to do it for free as long as I buy the material.

What do you think?  Too much?  How about green and white piping along the joint?

Anybody have colored seats on their bikes?

Here is an exapmle of a Luimoto seat cover on a monster. It's somewhat similar to what you are looking into doing. If you can have someone do a custom job for free, then I say go for it.

I think the two-tone seat could look slick. Go for it. waytogo

Thanks for the Luimoto info pennyrobber!  I saw several seats in their gallery that used the same design I'd like to create.

Sargent also offers their Skinz seat covers, and it looks like they will make the cover I want in black CF-finish and smooth red for $70.  Still looking for a local material source and have the work done by my friend, but I may end up going with Skinz and just have him install it.

At least it may be info others can use.

YUU!  Thanks for that link.  I like that multi-panel pattern...at $70 sound like a steal!!!  Going to send them a sketch.

if you have an oppurtunity like a custom recover for FREE i might not go with something thats already available, not over the top but definately different. Like a giant Dynamic D logo centered over the rear seat in Red ( obviously ) over carbon fiber like material across the rest of the seat or someshit like that. Go with what u like !
