some minor problems with my 696

when i start up my bike it make a real rough clanky sound and idle for about 4 seconds then its fine. and it runs normal. i have also noticed that my bike smells awful now. i think the smell started a few months ago when i removed the charcoal canister. is it normal for it to have a strong gas smell? it might be another smell than gas i just can't tell. also i noticed the rough idle sound when i unplugged my spark plugs and installed some rizoma crankshaft covers. oh, and if i start my bike up again while its still kinda warm it doesn't have that rough loud start up sound. but if i let it sit for a whole day and start it the next day it does that problem again...

The purpose of the canister you took off the bike is to absorb and store fuel odors, to be burned in the engine later, so you may occasionally smell raw gas, particularly if you jam in the last ounce when refueling.   Is the idle speed low when you start your bike cold?  If so, try a little more fast idle lever.
