Don't know if I'm just being slow but I've had trouble with my seat latch for months. I'm not sure if I'm missing something but I don't really see how I can adjust it. The spring seems too loose and the latch stays open sometimes. There's not enough tension on the cable. I don't know that the washer trick would help here. Anyone have a homemade seat latch or other ideas?  Normal seat on the bike and status post tail chop years ago.

Replace the spring with a stronger one?

Or the moving part may just need to be cleaned an lubed.  Crud can gum it up.

tried cleaning and lubing.  Spring's loose enough that it'll sometimes catch by luck and last for half a ride and then its loose by the time i get to where i'm going or i notice it loose at a stoplight.  any way to change the spring? or do i need to think outside the box somehow...

take a look at the point where the tumbler meets the wire. theres 2 screws that hold the spring to the tumbler. Mine came off.
