So my wife and I are walking the dogs in the woods near my house, and the dogs take off after what I think is the usual rabbit.  So they're going nuts barking and they have something holed in to a fox-hole or tree or something so I go to break it up and I see this huge freaking kodiak grizzly looking pissed-off and 20 feet away.  Apparently my dogs were barking at a cub and any time the big one would move they'd shift their attention to it. It makes fora good story, and next time it happens there will be a camera.

My advice would be the next time it happens to count your losses and get new dogs.  I'm just sayin...

... I'm totally cool with my friends saying "You remember when William bit it?!  That was awesome!  How do you explode in a fireball while being crushed under a waterfall?!  I don't think I'll beat that..."

Ducatiloo

I'm glad your dogs are ok.  My youngest dog would have tried to cuddle with the cub  :-\

If the bear causes trouble just smack it in the nose and loudly say,"NO, BAD BEAR!". It will realize the errors of it's ways and move on.

[laugh] [laugh] HAHAHA only if life were so comical.

So did you piss your pants when you saw that bear and her cub?

jakduc

Yes I did feel a little dribble on my leg...jk.  And yes most likely the bear could beat my dogs in a fight if it tried hard enough.  I never realized how big those things are.

for dogs to be smarter, they would have to be cats.
then they would not be our best friends, they would disdain us.

I'm here for a good time, but not a long time.

Dogs are probably posting on their message board:

I wish I had a smarter owner.

"Just wanted to go for a walk, piss on some tree's, sniff some of bro's poop, you know... the usual. Instead our owner takes us on a walk in some place that had F'ing bears. Bears! WTF? We are thinking dog park or a closed school with a tennis ball, but nimrod thinks we are into that National Geographic type shit. Yeah, it's cool in HD hanging in front of the TV but in real life. Holy shit! I thought we were gonna die. Then we have to go all police K9 on the freaking cub, just to keep momma distracted enough not to tear our ride home limb from limb. Finally get home and we overhear the tool blaming this shit on us!"

anyhoo.  Bears.  I have a friend who used to guide in Alaska.  His advise about bears....make sure you can run faster than they guy you are with.  His advise about bears and large caliber revolvers...5 at the bear.  If it's still coming, blow your brains out with the sixth.  It's gonna suck much less than being eaten alive.  BTW he highly recommended carrying a large caliber rifle at all times...Marlin lever guide gun was his choice.

Yes large caliber pistol maybe.  Walking away is easier though.  From what I seen and heard the only time they get too violent is when food is involved.  Down by the river the bears just hang out and chase people away when they catch a fish.  This bear was a 1/4 mile from my house BTW, bears are everywhere on this island.

MuscovyDuc

Wow different world. :o Here in Kansas the only animal I have to worry about is the angry squirrel I'm prying out of my 13 pound dogs mouth.

WonderBoy

Wow.  Da bears huh?  Yeah I'm with that other guy.  Leave your dogs for lunch meat and get new ones.

Yea  larger the  caliber the better.

But  make shure you file off the front sight befor you go.

Then it won't hurt so bad when the bear shoves it up your ass.  :o
