Mirror removal...
«
on:
May 23, 2008, 12:39:18 PM »
I've got an 07 S2R800 and just put on some bar-end mirrors this week, however I am having a really tough time removing the right mirror... am i just a big kitty and need to wrench harder or am I doing something wrong... I've got a 17mm wrench around the nut, turning it counter clockwise (from above) and it just won't move... The left mirror came off with out too much trouble, same way... It seems like the nut isn't even really doing anything? The mirror threads out counterclockwise too so it should just be able to spin out with the nut in place, no?

The right hand mirror is mounted reverse thread. Try turning it clockwise to remove or else you'll strip or break the mount.

+1 Nut comes OFF clockwise. No worries, We've all been there, at least I have
I have seen some people flipping the rear half of the clamp upside down to hide the hole where the stock mirror was mounted
Which mirrors did you get and how do you like them?

SON OF A....
Ok I wondered if it might be something like that but when I gave it a tentative tug the other way I'd probably wedged it pretty well and good... Ok... 2 more work hours and I can give it another shot...
I got the CRG HS LS BBQ's with the Rhinomoto bar end sliders/adapters. I haven't actually ridden with them yet, but I love the look and the convex view seems at least as big as the stock mirrors...
Anybody else have the CRG's? What angle did you put the mirror? Looking at the left hand handlebar end, they are at about 11 o'clock on the bar... 6 o'clock was too low and my arms got in the way... Maybe I'll do pictures when I get the other mirror off...
I'm not sure I can flip the bracket to hide the hole... I think that's where my reservoirs are?

I
think
we're talking about flipping just the rear half.

When I took my standard mirrors off that is exactly what I did... turned the half of the clamp that has the thread in it 180 degrees. Perfecto...

Wooo! Steady firm pressure in the CORRECT direction and it came off with a pop and then like butter...
And I see what everybody means about flipping the bracket upside down... I was thinking of the "rear" bracket as the one that faces forward, not the one that faces the rider... That's coming up next!
Thanks all!

Sweeeet... well the GF took the camera on a trip for the weekend so pics will be later, but the CRGs are great! Rock solid and smooth at 70-80mph... no vibration at all... I was afraid the view would be too low and too far from center but it's a very natural position... just a quick glance down and out...
Very easy to adjust on the fly and with the convex view I can see a lot more from upright and tucked positions without needing to adjust the mirrors... With the stock mirror I often found I couldn't move the mirrors enough to see behind me when in a full tuck...
I also flipped the bracket and it was quick and easy, but doesn't seem to line up as tight as it was the other direction...

My husband's Kawasaki has black plastic plugs that pop into the mirror holes since he has mirrors mounted on his front fairing. The last time he ordered a bolt from ServiceHonda.com for his bike, he got me a pair. Kawi part #92066
Or you could probably source them locally. A friend found Automotive inner body panel fasteners at Autozone that fit into the holes perfectly
