Check out this topic on WERA board, it's been discussed many times.
Some people got away by telling the insurance company only the location of the accident without mentioning the track event. Some insurance only decline the claim if it's a "timed" event so track day was covered.
But most people there have the mentality of you pay to play.
I personally don't think it's worth to worry about this so I just got myself a race prepped used bike and be happy on the track ;D

Ready my policy, then called and asked him to explain it. State Farm. I am, however, paying for some extras with my bike since I bolted on so many purty doodads. I do not think I'll be tracking this Monster.

As somebody else pointed out, I'll be buying a used bike where cosmetics aren't numero uno for track riding.

read the policy the entire thing with a fine toothed comb.  if you have any questions about interpretting anything just ask the insurer.

do not mention that you are going to the track. more like you are seeing if any of their definitions would apply to a track day.  they have to make it clear what they mean.

remember insurance companies are not there to help you, they are there to make money.  paying out a claim does not make them money, its profits they could have had.  don't ever forget that.  they will attempt to deny claims till the end of days.. unless there is a clause in a contract that says they have to pay.

There was a discussion about this awhile back:

The NYT article in question deals with car insurance, but I'd say much of it would apply to bikes, too.

I agree with sbrguy - be careful what you divulge to your insurance agent if you make an inquiry about insurance on the track.    ;)

You need to verify with your insurance company.  I have progressive and they do cover non-timed events, state farm does also, Geico does not cover anything on a race track though.

Just FYI, not sure about other companies.
