So I'm looking into the battery cable upgrade and I've got a question. What size cable do you guys put in?

One person suggested 6ga cable w/ 3/4" eyelets. The eyelets are too big.  :P My battery takes more like a 1/4". I got 3/8" and it's still too big.The cables turned out to be not much thicker than what is already on there. Actually, it looks like my + cable is already 6ga from the battery to the black box and maybe 4ga from the box to the solenoid. The - cable looks a tiny bit smaller than 6ga but that could just be slightly thinner insulation. Heh, that's what I get for buying bits w/o bringing originals with me.  [roll]

When I switched to the Yuasa YTZ7S battery, I made 4 ga. marine cables from the battery to ground, battery to solenoid and solenoid to starter hot.   It was a PIT@.  If I were to do it again, 6 ga. should have been appropriate.

Those cables probably negate the weight savings from going to the lighter battery.

With a headlamp gizmo to disconnect the beam when starting the bike, my M800 has been rock solid dependable.

The computer got a separate ground to the battery terminal, 10-12 ga, I think.  It doesn't draw as much current as the other loads, and it is mostly to avoid electrical ground issues.

You can get different lugs and cable clamps at a West Marine dealer.

Most places that sell welding supplies have a variety of hole sizes for the different gauge cable lugs.

Alright, then I'll stick with my 6ga cables and just get the correct eyelets.

Thanks.
