Hello all
On sat. went to start my 98 M900...all i got was a "click" when i hit the starter button.
All lights, gauges well lit.
Battery?
I connected one of those Costco "Battery Chargers" and she started right up.
So i proceeded to get a new battery came home installed the new battery "CLICK"
WTF!!
Waited a few minutes...cooling down..(ME)....then I rocked the bike back & forth a couple of times
and she started!!
Turn it off & tried again. click. click!!!!

So I thought I would consult with you guys...any ideas where to go from here?
MAC!!?  Help

The new battery should have been charged before installation. Batteries sitting on the shelf don't have a full charge and if you fill them yourself they still need a charge. Did you do that?

I'd also check/clean all the battery and battery cable connections all the way down to the starter as well as the grounds. Be very careful with the connection at the starter. If it turns in the housing you'll damage it.

I don't think the rocking had anything to do with it starting as the starter doesn't have a 'bendix' drive like your car.

If the connections are all clean and tight and the battery is fully charged the problem is most likely a bad solenoid (the little can in the circuit of the starter cable).

Ca-cycleworks, a sponsor, sells a replacement for less than the OEM unit that comes with a slightly different connector to wire in.

Good luck.

Thanks Ducpainter for the advice...
yes the battery was fully charged the morning before I picked it up.

But the starting "click" still is around & very intermittent!!
I had MAC900 try & help me with a volt meter in hand...but as you can guess it never

produced the "click"...performance anxiety!!! [bang]

well I ordered up one of the relays from CA Cycleworks
hope that fixes the bugger!!

tap the starter w/ a hammer lightly. worked for me on my M900 5 months ago. no problems since !

the brushes got a little wet & rusty I'm told. problem happened just after a bike wash & then it sat for a few days.
