Is this a scam?

I've had a couple people respond to my CL add and ask me to research insurance costs FOR THEM. It seems to me that if they aren't responsable enough to research their own insurance, likely they aren't buying the car. I've never heard of someone asking that before. Just pick up the phone. ??? It has to be spam of some sort, but I can't figure out what they hope to acomplish.

Either that or sheer laziness.

It's like I keep saying:  Those who would sacrifice a free range session for a giant beer, deserve neither free range time nor a giant beer.

i have had guys reach back and grab my crotch in an attempt to get around me. i'll either blow in their ear or ask them politely to let go of my wang.

no kidding, I'd just delete those emails.

You people all disappoint me.

Clearly, it's part of the deal of them buying it.

I would say it's $12 a month at state farm, and I can show it on nights and weekends.

Buyer beware etc etc.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

There is a good number of responses for many CL ads that ask bogus questions to get you to respond. Once you do, your email is no longer anonymous and the can send you spam emails.

Try listing a fake vehicle with some outrageous price like a 1972 AMC Gremlin 400K miles for $10,500. Make sure that no one in their right mind would respond and see all the emails you get. I'll bet some of them are from the same people that asked for that insurance info.  >:(

I got that several times while selling a Blazer. I knew it wasn't legit but didn't know what they were after. Makes sense adding to email lists that get sold. make the beast with two backsers

on a semi-related note, I was selling some wheels off my saturn once and you wouldn't believe how many people respond with "will these fit a honda/toyota/blahblah?"  I have no effing idea.  The next time I posted, I even put in the ad "I don't know what other cars these will fit, do your own research before contacting me" and I got considerably less responses, but still some "will these fit...?"

Sold a camper shell off an F150 back before the days of the internet and stupid people called instead of emailing.  "Will it fit a S10/b2200/whatever?"  It came off a full size truck do you really think it'll fit a mini truck pal?

Those are clearly a scam, but some people are just that stupid.

I sold a van on CL a few years back and it had NO interior other than the front two seats.  I threw it all out.  I clearly stated that I did.  Even put up pics...

Still had a guy drive an hour ONE WAY to look at it and his first question was,"Hey man...you got the rest of the interior?"

Monumentally stupid.  [roll]

Oh, and to the OP:  Some form of scam I"m sure...

While that may seem like a good idea, there are many of these spammers out there that are just as interested in your phone number.

I have an additional email set up just for Craig's list buying and selling. That way they can spam it all they want.  [laugh]

I've even gone as far as making a new email address each time...but honestly, that was just because I couldn't remember the password from the one I used the time before  [laugh]

good place to start.

the idea is the more of their time you take up the less time they have for real marks, no monetary gain on your part, though a few have managed to extract cash from the  scammers.

burning their resources (money, phone time, time, occasionally flagging a hijacked bank account and alerting the real owners) is the main goal.
