Just hit 600 miles on my 2010 Monster 696. Was thinking about whether I should do it myself or not, since South Seas Cycles here in Honolulu wants $250. Reading the other threads, and having done all the work on my first bike and my Jeep, I hate to pay for what you •don't• get.

But then I noticed, my maint indicator isn't on yet and I'm at 610 miles. Any ideas why?

AFAIK, the 1st interval is 1000 kilometers, which is 621 miles.

Well, that would make sense.  I thought that the country setting would round to 600 since the owners guide says 1000 * .6.

on my 696 i took it to one dealer i did the oil change prior and so they only charged me half hour labor to reset the maint light and wipe down the bike.

with the 1100 at another dealer they charged me $245 but they checked EVERYTHING on the bike adjusted the butterflies ( i think ) and balanced the motor and it made a huge difference bike ran awesomerererer. definately worth what i spent.
Favorite convo i read on this board
"PICS OR IT DIDNT HAPPEN"
"F**K U IT HAPPENED"

Suzuki Blvd M109R " Sliver " = assassinated by cager
PW 696 " Pearl " = traded in
M1100 " Loki " = Viking God of mischief ( Goddess in this case )
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a pretty pristine body, but rather to come in sliding sideways all used up screaming F*CK YEAH WHAT A RDIE!!

Thanks! As I said, though, I've read that thread and others, just trying to decide whether I can use the knowledge to talk down the price of the only shop here.

My main question was why the light didn't come on, and that's been answered.  I was planning to get the service done very soon, and didn't want to go and THEN have the light come on, since that would require another trip to the dealer.

I would go in and ask for a break down of the $250. Then, if you are willing to do the oil change yourself, you can do that and just keep the receipts.

As far as I'm concerned, $250 is a flat out rip off for a 600 mile service.

Ducati came out in 2007 stating that they were reducing the maintenance costs.

FWIW, I had my 600 mile service done in AZ by a certified Ducati mechanic and it was $100 including the oil change and adjusting the CO...
