999 cluster on a 749s

I know that this isn't about a Monster but... one of my mug club buddies just picked up an '06 749s at an auction for 3000. It was a repo and has no keys. He got a garage to invest in some software to try to reprogram the bike and disable the immobilizer but they had no luck with it. He found somebody with the cluster, computer and all of those bits off a 999 and is curious if it will fit his bike. Any info would be greatly appreciated! And Happy New Years to all!!

The parts will fit, but I doubt the fuel mapping would be correct. Not sure about the ignition mapping.

A powercommander might solve the fuel issues, or he could contact Doug Lofgren about an FIM ecu which will work with his stock gauges.

why not carry over the 999 motor into the 749s chassis as well... problem solved

I like the way you think. However, we have a feeling that the bike he bought is brand new. My bet is that the odometer is going to read under 1000. I've rubbed the inside of the exhaust and there is nothing. We've checked every bolt on the bike and the only ones that were touched were for the gas tank and airbox. If he can get this thing running, replace a mirror and windshield and come out spending 6k all in all.... I just want him to get it running though so I have another friend with a Duc to ride with when the weather gets warm. Now I don't know much about the 749s' but he said that the computer is mapped for an aftermarket exhaust. It's got the undertail Termis. He seems to think that all he needs is a cluster with keys and a new ECU.

PM'd you someone that can do it.  Who "tried" to do it, and failed?  If you don't want to post that, please PM me so I can avoid...

I NEED to learn how to purchase bikes at auction....so if anyone can help?
