Checking a frame

How does one go about checking to see if a frame is straight? I'm going back up to school tomorrow and will be helping fix up my friend's CBR600 that he crashed a couple months ago when I took him for a ride. They don't think the frame is bent but they haven't done anything more than just looking at it and going, "Huh, doesn't look bent." Is there anything that can be done without just taking it to a shop?

aside from a frame jig, if you look up a service manual for that bike, there are sometimes measurements that can be taken and refrenence to see if they match up.

another way to do it, is to get a bunch of string, and tie it to certain points on the frame and measure. If points dont measure up symmetrically, you have a bend somewhere, its a rough estimate though.

I want to get my sent to a shop. Ive seen quotes for ~ $300 if you give them a bare frame.

I'll bet that $300 includes actually straightening it.  If there's nothing to do, probably just get charged the shop labor rate.
