I'm taking my MSF class next week and have been thinking about a first bike that I'll want to keep for a few years...I know I want to get a monster, but I'm split between the 695 or the 620(I'm 250 if that helps). Which one do you suggest...any reason why? ???

BTW sorry for the this bike vs. that bike thread :P
This site is bad for me.....It makes me want to spend thousands of dollars that I do not have XD

As far as I know, the only differences are the available paint schemes and a few HP. I didn't really notice a huge performance difference between a 620 and my 695. I personally like the blacked out engine and black/red paint job on the 695 so that's what I went with. You'll probably be able to find 620s for cheaper and you could invest in a set of frame sliders with the money you saved, which is a good idea as it's your first bike.

... and the service intervals are at 7500 miles as opposed to 6000 miles.

I really like the red/black paint combo on the 695.

Watch out for the weeping cylinder thing... and the running hot thing...

Get a 620, the 695 isn't any faster in real terms not to mention it runs like shit and cooks itself to death unless you buy a prohibitively expensive Ducati Performance exhaust/ecu kit.

I believe the 620 has the higher quality Brembo "goldline" rotors and calipers up front too.

Get a 695.
You ll mod the baby anyway and it looks just better.
Mine runs with 120 celsius on the streets and 130 in the city.
I will do the 15to14 thing next week but there is no need for the ECU on my side.
Also you will have longer warranty and lower service costs.
And its a higher number...just not too high...avoid a 696 or the ron will come after you  [cheeky]

at 250 lbs, you might find the suspensions to be a bit lacking on both of them...
check out an S2R800. not that much of a power increase, but you would definitely need to be more responsible. the suspension might handle your size better. i went with the s2r for that reason, and i'm only 180lbs.

dunno about the shock, but the S2R800 has the same forks as the 620/695

and the 620 had the goldlines up until early MY05. same two-pots since.

250lbs?  Get the s2r800.  Otherwise go for a used 695 that has the dp ecu and termi system already installed.  The 695 runs too lean from the factory.  The 7000 mile intervals will save you money over the 620 and the black red scheme on the 695 is sick.

I have never owned a 695, but I did have a 620 for a year. She was a real sweatheart. I would stick with the 630 just because I never had oen problem, and I hear a lot of pregnant doging about hte 695.
About the same time you're dragging your knees through a series of tight left-right-handers on Sunday afternoon, some guy in white shoes is sweating a 3-foot putt. Go figure.

Despite popular belief the 695 does not run like shit or cook itself without the DP ECU.  Mine ran a little choppy at first during breakin, but what doesnt?  Ever since that first oil change it has ran like a dream.  It hasnt had surging issues or gunk melting onto the engine.   [thumbsup] for the 695 you will be happy with it

Mine certainly did for the 8200 miles of mixed riding I did on it and I know I wasn't alone. There was a 10 page thread about it on TOB as well as numerous other complaints. To be fair you'd probably never notice a problem depending on your riding habits, keep the bike in motion and the revs above 4k and all is well. Unfortunately I live in the real world and have to deal with traffic from time to time.

But I'm glad that the 695 that you just happen to be selling ran so well for you. [thumbsup]

I ended up starting the process for declaring my old 695 a lemon due to its issues. Mine consistently ran way too hot (300 degree temps all the freaking time) and the engine paint was burned to a crisp. Also had a ton of shifting issues.

I'd recommend the 620 but thats just my opinion based on my sucky experience with DNA and their complete disregard for the overheating problem many of us had with the 695.

Ok let me rephrase what i posted despite popular belief not everybody had the overheating/surging issue.   [moto]

Mine came from the dealer with Termi/ECU, so I can't comment on those issues.  It has run perfectly from day one, though.  Unless you can get a 620 for much less (and you may) then the 695 gets my vote.

I love my 695, but I do notice I hit neutral a lot between first and second if I'm not concentrating on a very deliberate shift.
