Shop woes --what should I expect?

Took my ST2 to a well reputed shop for service which included changing the fuel filter (in tank). I picked it up this past Thursday and rode the 50 miles back home. Commuted 30 miles on Friday, rode 150 miles on Saturday and 20 miles worth of errands on Sunday and all seemed fine.

I came home after work today (Mon.) to find a huge puddle of gas on the garage floor. Some time after I left, the tank started leaking from the fuel pump flange on the rear underside of the tank. Leaked probably 4 gallons down the left side of the tank, frame, sprocket and kickstand.

Shop recommended checking lines and torque on the flange nuts, then calling back. Their van is out of state for 1 1/2 weeks, so they can't transport it and I don't have the ways/means to get it there (50 miles one-way).

I'm also concerned about the effects of 10+ hours of gas dripping on the frame and engine case; I can see the orange rubber case sealant falling off and there appears to be oil in the gas (hopefully just from the chain/sprocket) and nothing more sinister.

I'll call tomorrow to report no luck with torquing, etc. and see where it goes from there. Pretty bummed and not sure what to expect. Any thoughts or suggestions?

wash with lots of water for a start, maybe a mild degreaser too.

Thanks, Brad. The shop treated me well -picked up and delivered the bike at no cost. Turns out the o-ring was the issue and they fixed it.

When I got it back, I cleaned it with degreaser, then hot soapy water. However, since I got it back it seems to be running hotter. The temperature guage doesn't read any hotter (water temp), but I can feel way more heat coming off the engine at my legs and the seat.

Bike seems to run the same, and visual inspection reveals nothing. I've checked all connections, etc.

Is there any chance that the gas could've seeped into something, or is there anything else I can check?

Thanks much.

I had gas leak, and weeks after it was fixed I still smell gas and were checking under tank. It was (normal) gas smell coming from tank breathers + my paranoia made almost not noticeable gas smell smell like gas leakage . So hotter bike run may the same psycholocy side effect.

Thanks for the input, kokis. Since I can't explain it, I'd like to think it's just psychological. However, I've been riding this bike for a few years, and quite a bit this summer and the heat is notably more. Just no idea why...

or better yet...the dirt that may have been on there, that the gas, soap and water, and all else used to clean it has now removed the dirt that was previously acting like a heat sink or thermal barrier?!?!?!....just a thought....

Right. It was a major service, minus the things I had done over the winter (fluids, plugs, air filter, rear brake pads). So they mostly did valves, belts, tps, throttle body sync, fuel filter.

It seemed fine for the 3 days after pickup, hotter after the fuel incident. And this August has been cooler than usual.
