Hello, looking to mod my S2R heavily and was wondering if anyone here has had experience replacing gas tanks on an S2R with the above. Please advise.

Picture below is what a 996 tank / tail looks like on a FI frame.

Things to think about:

1) the top tube of the frame is a different angle than the SBK one -- thus you'd have to modify the front edge of the tank to correct.  Some people don't and just crank the back of the tank and seatcowl high -- but that looks wankered at best.
2) Clipons only.  Regular bars will have clearance problems with the tank upper bulges
3) You will need to make a rear mount and support mounts for the front of the tank.  Ditto for the seatcowl.
4) The airbox assembly won't fit.
5) If you are modifying the tank per #1, you might as well toss the airbox and drop the fuel tank bottom -- you can gain a fuel gallons of capacity then.
6) Do you try to emulate the SBK airbox assembly or leave that area empty (as per this image)
7) This would look ugly with a gauge pod sticking up above the triple clamps as per stock.

Alternatively:

Acquire sbk frame.

Insert 2V Motor.

Only have the issue of the airbox, gauges and the other "small things".

Thanks MotoCreations for your insight. I definitely have my work cut out for me.  [thumbsup]

What I was planning on doing was not very aggressive at all...aside from the 998 tank. I was going to replace the suspension and the normal bling of course. Powdercoat the swing arm black and add some clip-ons from the top. I wanted to lower the triple as I did on my 2003 - 620. I really enjoyed the way she handled. Of course replace the head lamps and have a one-off exhaust of some kind. Once I get started I'll post some pics.

Thanks MotoCreations.

been wanting to do that, but with an SBK frame, you need SBK insurance on it. Come the day your bike for some reason needs to be totaled and the vins dont match up and next thing you know it, your in jail. (atleast i know i would be ;P)

Yeah, but first someone would pour kitchen grease all over it and then knock it over for you!!!   [cheeky]

That's seems to me some kind of S2R or motorard motor but the frame is not S2R.
