nonsense... One of them sits in your lap  ;D

Or, if you've really done a good job... They're making out with each other in the passenger seat.

Supposedly a guy I used to work with dropped a small block V8 in his 914.  He said it absolutely screamed.

I never saw it, but he was one of those people that often exaggerated things.  You ever hear of that?

I have a 1997 Miata which is a great car for my purposes- running around town and blasting down back roads. It has the Jackson Racing supercharger for 190 HP, so it keeps up with traffic, but still not going to beat any Z06's. It handles pretty well, and has great reliability. NO storage space (my laptop fills up the trunk), and terrible in the snow. Even on wet pavement, it gets tail-happy. Definitely has the chick-car image, but I don't care. We got it originally for my wife, but when she changed jobs she needed a bigger car, so we traded.

BTW, I once took a trip with FOUR people in a Porsche 914- me driving, girlfriend (now wife) on the cushion between the seats, roommate on the passenger seat, and his girlfriend on his lap.

I wouldn't call it common, but I've seen a couple & there's aftermarket support for the conversion:
