Did a quick search, no topics. What all is/tools involved for engine removal? Plan to have the bike repainted.

There are no special tools need to remove the engine. You just need a drift in order to drive the two mounting bolts out and another to drive the swingarm pivot shaft out if you plan on removing it.

The engine is really the easiest part of the process. Taking every single other part off of the bike is a little more tricky

I have a feeling this will be a ton of fun, but a learning experience has well. Wish I could have my engine painted as well. Think it would be more trouble than it's worth.

make sure you label everything well and have a good idea of how the harness is laid out. keep parts/hw in small plastic bags.

If you do remove the swingarm you'll need a good set of feeler gauges to get everything lined backup correctly with the shims.

I did mine last winter - Took about 12 hours to disassemble and clean everything methodically - I'm an engineer and very mechanically inclined - I'm also very anal rententive so I assume others will have done this faster.

Assembly went a little slower - You'll want to get the factory service manual - It lists all the steps and the corresponding order. The Snyder manual is useless for this especially if it is your first time

Service manual available online, or hardback? Where can I purchase?

lt snyders is available at cacycleworks i believe. the motor is easy to get out, like others said it just removing all the other crap. again, PLASTIC BAGGIES, labeled. pictures are good if you think you might have an issue with a certain area. you can pm me if you need pointers on anything, ill try to help ya, ive done a couple air cooled swaps. you will just have a few extra hoses and crap to deal with. shouldnt need any special tools...i did one of my swaps in a 4by8 storage unit with the frame hung from the ceiling rafters and the motor dropped out with a car jack and a couple blocks of wood, all by my lonesome. that suuuucked.  [thumbsup]

Yeah, I have no idea what that means.  I plugged that phrase into Babelfish, the online translator, and it said, "All your grammar belong to us."
