The bearings on the belt pulleys  how many miles should you replace them ...thet are inexpensive and i always check them at service time but i am curious as to when they should be replaced by.

i recently was given a 996 to rebuild  where a pulley bearing had seized and snapped the belts  buggering the valve train.

Jerry,

I replace mine when replacing belts.  I think it should be in the maintenance schedule and probably isn't for political reasons to keep maintenance costs down.  Those bearings seem to cause more belt failures than anything else.  I don't remember what they cost but I remember they were surprisingly cheap last time I bought some.  Was awhile ago though.

I've got 35k miles on my Monster and as far as I know the bearings are the originals.  I check them at least every service interval and they still are fine.  I may change them out after this season just for the peace of mind.

I haven't seen it as a line item on a service schedule.
