Tire Worry

I installed a Pilot Power 2 on the front end of my bike last week.  I have subsequently ridden it well over 100 miles, but wasnt able to work my way out to the sides of the tread for various reasons.  Now for my concern...I'm attending a Total Control class this coming Saturday and I'm a little worried that I could slide the front end.  Speeds in the class are relatively low, but I can expect to see lean angles that would take me into the "new" zone on the tread.

Any suggestions on how to "break in" the rest of the tire without actually breaking the bike?  Am I being overly cautious?

Yes, you are.  It's fine.  If you want a little extra piece of mind so that you're not relying on someone on the internet, confirm with an instructor when you get there.  They'll tell you the same thing.

You can always take sandpaper to those untouched spots, but that's a lot of work.  Besides, don't expect to get too far over onto the side of your front tire.  Because of tire and suspension profiles, many folks have big chicken strips on their front, no matter how fast they ride or how much they lean.

Unless you have huge chicken strips left, you will never be entirely on new rubber. Secondly, a section of tire scrubs in more or less the first time it touches the pavement so I think you will be fine. I would be more worried about pushing the tires while they are cold than anything else.

i saw this nutso, his name is elmatador. he rode 2 up on brand new Pilot Road 2 rear, and pilot road front.

he tore that shit up on brand new tires. i wouldnt be afraid of sliding out unless you physically saw some slippery stuff on the front tire. in that case wash it off
