I had the chance to pick up a used pitbull stand. Stand supports standard & spool type.

Do I need anything special for the spool kits for a 695? Someone mentioned that I would need to drill a hole or weld a spool kit?

There are different kinds of spools.  If you get the kind that mount to the swingarm you will need to drill and bolt or weld them on.  The 696 swingarm is thin aluminum and it's easy to get to the back side, I imanige bolting them on would be easy.
Ignore above, does not apply to 695, it's 696.

They also make combo spools/sliders that mount through the hollow axle.  These bolt right up with no modification but have the disadvantage in that you cannot remove the wheel while the bike is on the stand.

Oops!  My bad, I thought you said 696.  Ignore previous comments.  The 695 has a different swingarm.  The insert you need is called a Riv-Nut.  You can find plenty of posts on these here and elsewhere.
