So I tried to remove my bar end mirror while working on my bars and I could not get the plug off the end. I eventually got my lines to work for now so they reach but now I cannot tighten the end, it just keeps spinning... Any advice?

If you can't tell, I really suck at working on my bike.

Ok, so I managed to get this thing out of the bar at least. The screw on the end pulls a tapering part that expands the tube in the bar that holds the mirror, I loosened it to the point where the tapered piece was floating in the bar.

Now I either need a new bar end mirror or a trip to Home Depot to see if I can find something similar...  [bacon]

EDIT: part I need is called an "Expanding Sleeve", anyone know where to find these? Otherwise I am probably buying a new mirror just to get the sleeve off it...

Good luck finding something.

Different bars have different IDs.

Is that the problem?

Well, the expanding sleeve is just the silver part on these:

I did too much damage on the old one to re-use it... The price seems right though I think I might as well just pick up a new mirror for the part, was hoping I could find it at a store but might take more effort than it's worth the hunt brick and mortars for something so specific...

Is the one in the ebay auction the same as the ones that you already have?

I had a set of those too. After about a month all the bolts got ubber rusty, so I replaced them with SS.

Hmmm, I've always had really good luck with the cheapy bar ends, they actually look good for the money. I don't leave my bike outside though so I am not sure about whether I will eventually see rust.

Anyways, PM sent to He Man, thanks a ton.

I bought a set of those mirrors and threw the sleeves out. A piece of fuel line in it's place works better and is cheaper. Make sure you use a flange nut and put a bit of anti-seize on the bolt.

+1.  Or a rubber stopper the right diameter to fit inside the bars.

eesnas

Ok, I think I am going to try this rubber idea... I have Woodcraft clip-ons and the diameter is different than stock. I've got a bunch of expander sleeves that are close but none fit except the outer one I pulled out last week, the issue with that one is that the inner sleeve is broken. So I think I will use the outer sleeve in combination with some type of tubing to expand and replace the inner sleeve.

What a PITA this turned out to be.

ok, so I got it to fit, it's a tad crooked but I'm the only one that will probably notice...

New bars are a 2" rise, but physically it's only 1-1.5" higher than what I had, it's so much more comfortable... I'll post pics soon.
