Why is my avatar squished?

When I go into my account settings to choose  my avatar, it looks totally normal but when I post and when I look up in the corner under my profile name, it looks smooshed down.

Is there some kind of formating or something I need to do to make it normal?

Avatar size is limited by the software, so I'm guessing when it sizes it you're losing the proportions.

You might try resizing a copy and then uploading it.
