Oli change nightmare

So in the past I have had my oil changed for me.  Now that there is no dealer near by I decided to do it myself.  My real issue actually has nothing to do with the oil changing itself really.  It all started when I went to pop the drain plug.  I looked at it and the header was sitting directly underneath the drain plug.  After a few calls I found out that my bike (06 s2r1000) has a early full termi system that was made wrong and the header has to be removed to access the drain plug.  Not a huge deal with the exception of my wrapped headers which made the whole process a bit of a pita.

Got them off and the oil changed.  The real fun started when I went to put everything back together.  I had the whole thing in place with the exception of the dog bone support on the left side of the bike.  I couldn't get the holes to line back up.  Long story short I ended up taking most of the exhaust part trying to get everything to line up.  Three hours and a bunch of swearing later I have the thing back together, but now I have two exhaust leaks.  [bang]

There is a smaller diameter tube that connects the two headers together just infront of the rear tire.  That is where all my troubles are.  I can't seem to get that to seat properly, or even close for that matter.  That is one of the leaks.  The other one is on the header for the horizontal cylinder @ the first joint.

I guess I have three questions:

1.) How bad is it to have leaks like this?
2.) Where can I find the termi engineer that screwed up this design so I can beat some sense into the guy?
3.) Are there any tricks I may not know of to getting these things to fit together correctly?

Sounds like a suck day.

The exhaust leaks shouldn't cause any real trouble except for backfiring on decel.

Termignoni sucks dick. It might be different if they were the cheapest, but as it stands they are simultaneously the most expensive and the most inferior. All of the aftermarket alternatives available are superior, and cheaper to boot.
To answer your questions, 1) if you care about the proper running condition of the bike, you need to eliminate the leaks. Otherwise you will have a shitty runner. 2) there are no Termi engineers, just two short hairy guys in a garage with a Bernz-O-Matic 3) tricks? only trick I know of is to lose the Termis, buy some Boomtubes or Arrows and never look back

Well thanks for the feedback.  I should have the bike in southern ca. within the next month to 6 weeks and I plan on having it looked at by someone with more experience.  I'm guessing the prior owner probably had no knowledge of the issue.  He wasn't the type of guy that got his hands dirty.  Or he was just a jerk and didn't tell me.  Either way it's my problem now.  It didn't help that the exhaust gaskets I bought at Motorcosa where the wrong size so I was able to replace them.

I'll get some pics once this rain/snow stops and put them up.  There is a very good chance I put something back together wrong and didn't realize it.

Moral of this story:  I shouldn't be allowed to work on my bike unsupervised... :P

i can tell you from FHE my experience with the full arrow system on my s4r hasn't exactly been "spot on".  love the sound but they leak like a sieve where they slip onto the shorty stock header pipes.  okay, maybe "sieve" is a bit extreme...but still, it's quite a lot.  still trying to come up with ways to somehow tighten up those joints in a semi-permanent fashion (don't think i haven't thought about JB weld!)
