On my way home from work today I hit some traffic and was stop and go for awhile in about 85 degree weather. This was the first time I've had the bike in this kinda situation.

Bike ran fine the whole time, fans kicked in at 220 and never got above 230. Got home, turn bike off, hopped off, and turn around And coolant starts leaking out the overflow for about fifteen seconds probably dropping a cup or two, then quit.

I'm guessing this isn't normal. Thoughts?

Were the fans running when you shut it off, and did they stop as a result?

I honestly don't remember if they were or not. I'm pretty sure they were though. After I noticed it leaking, I turned the key back on and the fans kicked in and the leaking stopped a few seconds after.

I'm thinking that the temp spiked when you shut it down and the coolant expanded and puked a little.

It may be that you were slightly overfull and it wasn't an issue until it got hot. It probably wouldn't have occurred if you waited until the fans quit

On my 996 the full level on the coolant tank is with the bike on a side stand. You may want to check where you are for coolant now.

Just checked, it is showing right at the full line. I think you're right dp, just a little too full and got too hot.  Thanks for your help and peace of mind.
