Hi folks, any help would be greatly appreciated here.  I just bought this bike, the previous owner didn't really know anything about it, and its my first bike so I'm a little lost.

I'd like to get some touch up paint for a couple of scratches on the tank.  The bike is a 1996 M900, it is dark in color, but I don't know if it is a 'dark.'  From what I understand the dark is a matte black, mine appears to be glossy.
My best guess right now is the SKU: 7575 from ColorRite, along with a gloss coat for it.  If anybody can give me more concrete information, that would be great.  Here is a picture of the bike.

There was no 'dark' in 96.

Your bike is a black metallic, and the color rite 7575 is not the same color.

You might want to call or email them as they used to offer that color. I don't know the number.

I took my bike to an automotive paint supply store and they custom matched the color, filled a spray can and gave me a half a pint in a can for $20.

How many years ago was that?

I'm in Germany, so I'm limited to what I can order online, more or less.  There don't seem to be an abundance of easy to get to stores for any specific use... Thanks for the replies so far!

The color rite code for that black is 7540. I can't vouch for the match.

I've also found the PPG code of 291.500 and 291.501 listed as Black metallic, but can't find it listed for a 96.

If there is a PPG paint dealer nearby maybe they have a color chip.

Maybe 4 or 5

3 years ago I was paying $60 for a pint of red.

That same color now is over $110.

Just to bring you into this century. ;D

I just got 4 oz of a plain white mixed (or was it two oz) for $20.00...isn't white the cheapest color?

Absoutely no help at all for the OP, sorry.  [roll]

I ordered the 7540 from Color Rite.  As of right now the bike is in a crate being shipped here, might be another month or more, so I imagine the thread will be long dead by the time I can let you know if it matches right.

Thanks though ducpainter, I was all ready to order the entirely wrong color, this one will be better even if it isn't a perfect match
