Has anyone used or know of anyone that has used the Vizalert System, the one that is supposed to be legal, and works on both radar and laser and gives you a heads up by flashing a warning via a LED in your helmet.
With people using up just about all their points it might be a useful tool.

I think this is the site if you are interested (in keeping your licence)  dontgetcaught.com.au

Mmick,

From a quick read, the vizalert is not legal anywhere but WA - they sell an "undetectable" unit for the other states.

There's a separate device for laser, which is (according to the site) legal.

Buying both, with the helmet thingy and the like, will not give you much change for $2500. Your licence better be important to you!

Mick, be prepared for a full body search if the coppers suspect you have a radar detector... they get pretty pissed off about those things...

Its a greater offence to be caught with a detector than to be caught doing extreme speeds in Victoria.  Roll Eyes

Huuuge fine and loooong suspension of licence if I remember correctly!  Shocked

And most detectors can be detected by the Plods, there are only a couple that are "hidden" from detection.!

As Goldy wrote, BIG $$$$ are involved. Be fun though!  Evil

Interesting reading. http://www.delonixradar.com.au/victoria/#defence

Police radars (and laser) have come a long way since the eighties, when radar detectors were popular and useful.

Way back then, they'd just continuously blat a signal straight up the road in each direction, that was very easy to detect.

Fixed installs (like speed traps and cameras) now put the radar signal at an angle to the road, and only pulse it on when they're actually measuring your speed.  The net result of that is that you can't receive a signal until it's too late to decelerate.

Laser is much tighter focused than radar.  That means they have to actually aim the laser at you.  Of course, by the time a laser detector goes off, your speed is already displayed.

So all in all, I think your likelihood of avoiding tickets using a detector is pretty remote.

GPS based alerts are much more useful, at least against fixed traps.
