New seat doesn't fit!

I bought a new seat for my M750 and matched the part # exactly. Not only did it have a different locking mechanism but it actually didn't fit to knee notches on the tank (it needed about 1" more room).

The locking mechanism is easily fixed  but the size issue...

Anyone else experienced this much variation with the same part number? How can I get a new seat, the duct tape on mine is starting to embarrass my girlfriend!?

Have you contacted the seller?

If you have the paperwork/mail/order and you still got the wrong part - exchange free of charges?

The seat for a 2K up bike is different than the 93-99 seat.
