....because a mind is a terrible thing......

« on: March 04, 2010, 09:14:31 AM »

Well, since the only other obvious thread to do with racing on NMMR seems to be dedicated to MotoGP, let's just start a thread for ALL racing related matters.  This thread will be a place to discuss all things which might compromise someone else's enjoyment of later televised or recorded racing, hence the ****SPOILER**** in the title.

If there is even a question as to whether or not an item might ruin someone's enjoyment of a race they haven't seen yet, then post it HERE!  Such items include race results (duh), qualifying results, preliminary qualifying results (I've been pregnant doged at for posting these before, so let's just keep 'em here), and any statements that include aggregate season scoring (series points totals or leaders, as this info might give away the winner of a race).

There is a separate thread for non-spoilers, so feel free to discuss pre-race thoughts, silly-season rumors, rider gossip, and other non-spoilers there!

Nobody has said a frikkin' word on here about the WSB races this past weekend, so what do you guys think?  Who would have thought a Suzuki out front?  Who would have thought TWO Suzukis out front (for a while)?  Who would have thought Checa would lay down the Ducati law to Fabrizio and Haga in race 2?

That was some exciting shite.  Will Suzuki assert dominion over WSB as it has over AMA racing, or was this just a fluke due to Suzuki's testing advantage at Phillip Island?  Will Ducati get pissed and step it up a notch?  Ducati seemed to be down on power to the Suzukis.  Will Ducati find a couple of horses hidden in the trunk, or will they continue to be at a disadvantage on those tracks where power is at a premium (which is most of the tracks on the schedule)?

Thoughts?

Vicki Smith, who runs the Ducati "Big List" is at Daytona.  She informed us that there are two Ducatis (848s) in the top ten of qualifying, and that Larry Pegram has qualified second to Aaron Yates by 0.052 seconds!  GO LARRY!!!!

It has been 32 years since Cook Neilson and Phil Schilling won Daytona on a Ducati (Old Blue....a 750SS).  Is this the year Ducati moves to the fore, again?  Is there any honor in winning with a 150cc advantage over Japanese 600cc fours?  I'd say yes, but I might be in the minority....at least it's not the HUGE 525cc advantage enjoyed by the Buells last year.

Apparently this year's race is to be run as a double, similar to WSB, with the first heat on Friday and the second on Saturday.  Speed is to broadcast both heats  Saturday after the AMA Supercross is broadcast.  Supercross starts at 6:00 Mountain and goes until 8:30, then they're showing the Superbike heats at 8:30 and 9:30 respectively.  You're all welcome to head over to the house to watch after the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer fundraiser ride.  Ashley will be in London, so we can turn up the volume, and drink, and have wild sex (with each other or farm animals....like Kingbaby) until the wee hours if we want to!!

Check times, that might be Eastern rather than Mountain time.

Maybe we should start a new thread discussing the apparent demise of Ducati in WSB competition?  Hell's bells.  Honda won a race this weekend.  HONDA?  I like to "ride red"....but not THAT red?!?!?  WTF?

Good on Jonathan Rea for stepping up his game to give Massimiliano a bit of competition, but this is NOT what I expected upon Spies' retirement to MotoGP.  I expected a Haga rapefest of the remainder of the field with double after double and lots of 1-2 finishes with Fabrizio, but instead Godzilla has been beaten down by the figurative Japanese Army.  This is almost as bad at Tyson's defeat at the hands of Buster Douglas!
