696 + Termi = backfiring?

Hi everybody,
A new Termi kit was installed at 3,000 miles to 09 M696. The upgrade was noticeable, more torque and great sound... no issues at all. Now, after the 7,500 miles checkup at the Ducati dealer I've noticed heavy backfiring and less power. They said that a "by pass" needs to be installed in order to adjust the gasoline mixture.  ???

Its normal for Termi equipped M696 to pop n crackle when you throttle off..... I enjoyed the sound on mine, enough to make you roll off the gas.... lol   ;)

BUT.... sounds like you are describing something more than that.  The backfiring you describe has only begun since the 7500 mile service by your dealer?  Wasnt there prior to that?  If thats the case, then I'd be taking it straight back to em to ask WTF  ???

I'm calling BS on this.... "bypass" - never heard of any such thing.  Somebody else might chime in to contradict me. Lets see......

If the termi exhaust came with the DP ecu, you should not be having that problem. Do you still have the 02 sensor hooked up? Ask your dealer if they reset the TPS, and ask them if they adjusted the COs. Your COs should be from 4-6%. I don't know what this "bypass" is that they speak of. Also, find out what kind of gas analyzer they have (if at all....its NOT a cheap piece of equipment and some places will just say "we do it by ear"...no bueno!).  With PROPER tunning, you should not have this issue.  Along with every major service they are supposed to "tune up" you throttle bodies.

I recently upgraded to a full system with ECU and intake. Big difference in performance but I'm experiencing similar issues. For me, I'm goin to my mech next week and hooking up to vdst to tune this thing. Tps and trim will hopefully straightin it out. I'm on an s2r though so I don't know if there is something similar for you.

Bypass sounds fishy. Don't half ass it. If your gonna do the exhaust, do it right. IMO
This is more fun than standing still at a radiohead concert.

The Termi exhaust came with the DP ecu and the air filter. The 02 sensor is currently hooked up.
Have you tried to : quote "force the TPS to reset by turning the bike on/off 3 times in a row. You CANNOT touch the throttle or fast idle though or it will not reset."

What kind of $$ is a DP ECU?  Ive got the PC3 and am not loving it.

How does one cure exhaust leaks?

It's extremely easy to reset the TPS oneself on a 696. Just key it on, let the gauges "sweep," then key it off three times in a row.

They're around one and a half thousand bucks, give or take, but come with a free air filter and Termi exhausts.

You can find DP ecus online for about 3-5 hundred dollars now. Keep in mind, you are going to end up spending another hundred or so sending it out to someone to disable the immobilizer function (unless you are lucky enough to find a virgin ecu from the getgo.). Now, a word of warning, Make sure you get the ECU from someone reputable. You can tell its a DP ECU from the part number listed on the sticker, but you can double check by having a dealer check the ECU with the DDS once it is in the bike (An ECU id number will be present which you can cross refrece as a DP ecu or not). Aother alternative is to purchase a "one time reporgram". This type of programmer is available from Motowheels (called a Protune), though i have never had any experiences with it before. The problem with a Power commander is that it only allows you to adjust fuel. Not on that, but it acts a a "variable resistor" simply manipulating the signal going to the injector.  It either lengthens or shortens the impulse to the injector. The other options also compensate by making adjustments to ignition timing, which is where you actually make more power.
