Hey all,

Just new here. Looking for some advies on a clutch problem i'm having. I have a 1998 750. Halfway on my last ride after a quick stop my clutch seemed to be sticking between changing gear...kind of a delay. Thinking i would have instant gear....the bike just reved out and then took the gear? I thought maybe i just missed the gear but i did the same thing at every gear change. The clutch does still ingage when i come to stop, its just when changing when i'm riding? The clutch lever also feels different, does'nt quite return as fast.

Could this mean i just need to bleed the clutch, or is it a problem in the slave cylinder?

I'm new at this game so any info would be graet!!

cheers

What you are feeling sound like clutch slip.  If the lever feels sluggish you might have a pushrod that is binding or a binding clutch lever since the lever is binding.

is it hot where youre riding? I was riding in 108 degree weather one time(last time!) and the fluid expansion caused my lever to not fully release, causing the clutch to slip. I had to free up tension by backing out the hexbolt in the clutch lever...

The weekend i was riding was mid winter....it was to the brass monkey rally, called so because its cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey! we camped on 3 inches of snow at the rally site [thumbsup] so can't be that.

@howie
when you say pushrod binding do you mean the pushrod in the clutch slave cylinder, or do you think it is the lever itself?

This will be my first go at doing the work to my bike myself.... always wanted to be able to do this stuff myself, so this is where i start [coffee] RTFM...and ask around a bit :)

Could be either or neither.  My guess would go with push rod though, going by your your statement "The clutch lever also feels different, does'nt quite return as fast.".  Otherwise, I would think clutch plate time, particularly if the slipping happens in the higher gears.  Air in the line would cause the opposite problem.

animatronik's advice is good too.  An overfull reservoir can cause this problem.

Being new at this, you might want to have someone local look at it before taking stuff apart.

thanks Howie for the advise. Will ask around here for someone to give me a hand....
