Want a red stripe on my bike......Paint or Sticker?
«

So I'm looking to repaint my 02 M620 and was thinking about doing Black with a red stripe.
My question is to whether the red stripe is painted on or if I can just have the bike/cowl painted black and buy the red decals?
Sorry, never painted a bike before and I have seen some really nice ones on here. thanks!

I don't like stripes tha much, but if I did, I'd decal it first to make sure I liked it, then I'd either paint a stripe on or clear over the decal.
Sup to you man!

Paint the main color and then do the stripe with decals. That way you can paint, install the parts, take photos, install the stripe decals and compare to the photos of the bike without the stripes. If you like it better without the stripes you can just peal them off. Also, if you like the stripes and later decide you want a different color stripe, you can easily change it.

Don't do decals. Unless of course you want it to look like shit. It's very hard, almost impossible to install the decals without wrinkles because of the compound curves of the tank.

Very good point Monstermash. If you don't know how to properly install decals, don't even think about it. They can be very frustrating. If you have patience and can apply them properly though, I like them for the reasons I listed earlier. I've applied plenty to my old bikes (GSXR's.) I also used a kit from tapeworks once to spice up a plain white Shoei helmet into a gorgeous one that matched my bike. You can always buy a set and try and if you don't get good results remove them and do it the right way. Get quality stuff though from somewhere like tapeworks, etc.

Hey, I used a decal on my s2r 800. It was tangerine and i didn't have enough money to paint the tank. So, i ordered a gunmetal stripe from cutgraphix and it worked really well. If you go that route ask them to "oversize" the stripes and lettering so that you can fully cover any previous stripe. It is holding up well and love the look. It takes some patience and creative solutions if it doesn't fully line up. Tank pad!

I have a red stripe kit I got on ebay for 50 bucks or so. Has instructions and everything you should need. I think it is a CutGraffix kit. (i'll check when I get home).
Make me an offer and it's yours.

I think something may be wrong with me... my answer is "run over a possum".
Painted on and cleared over will be the most long term solution (for an ACTUAL stripe, not my possum suggestion). Check out pics of other bikes to make sure you like the look before comitting to that expense, tho.
Decals are reversible, like Jeff suggested.
