Some young guys went past me on a straight road leading to a roundabout.
One guy on a gixxer 1000 pulled a very impressive half mile wheelie at 60mph as the road climbed the hill. I'm sure he startled the car drivers he passed. You can have your vehicle seized and crushed in this state. Not to be outdone, his friend on a CBR600 decided to pull a stoppie approaching the roundabout at the top of the hill. He got the bike vertical as he rolled along and I was impressed and alarmed! He was still vertical and at walking pace as he approached the roundabout when five or six cars entered it.. He no longer had the option of letting off the brakes to bring it down. The vertical bike came to a standstill and then slowly toppled over nearly landing on his friend who stopped at the roundabout. I stopped to help out and offered the use of my trailer. The guy wasn't hurt but bloody embarrassed. His bike would have had a few grand damage. I felt sorry for the guy as I remember being that age.
I hope he reflects on the incident, "Mental note to self. Don't do stunts in built up areas with lots of traffic. Don't do stoppies in areas that take away the option of getting off the brakes, ie leading to traffic lights, stop signs and roundabouts. Get a stunt/race bike and do speed/stunts in a safer place." Those young guys were developing skills but have more skill than judgement at this stage. Hope they'll be OK.
