The Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night's sky just after Midnight Friday, August 27th at 12:30 am.

It will look as large as a Full Moon to the naked eye.

Mars will come within 34.65 M miles of Earth , the closest it will be until the year 2287 .

No one alive today will ever see it again.

I'll be checking that out for sure.  [thumbsup]

I might have to go to the Observatory for that.
Woohoohoohoo! Two personal records! For breath holding and number of sharks shot in the face.

The wolves will howl twice as loud.

Cool, that's a Friday night too so I don't have to worry about getting up early so i'll stay up to see it at it's best.

Mars comes close to the earth twice a year.  It will never be as big as the moon.

Fun fact:  The moon is slowly getting farther and father from the earth, in a few million or billion years it may appear to be as small as mars!  Of course by then the sun would have gone kaput and the earth, Mars and other interior planets would have been consumed when the sun goes red-giant.  So I guess that means that mars and the moon will never appear to be the same size from earth.  Unless a giant drifting planet or black hole travels into our solar system and disrupts the orbits of the planets...should I keep geeking out?

I'm going to sit outside that night anyway and wait for something to happen.  [cheeky]

I think I'll be busy on the 27th (listening to SRV all day long in observance of the 20th anniversary of his passing), so I will wait to see it in 2287.

Yes, I plan on living that long.

I find it disturbing that you're imagining me in a sauna, never mind the teletubbie aspect of it
