08 Monster 695 Shock Upgrades

Hi to all those more knowledgeable than I -

I have a 08 Ducati Monster and after upgrading bits and pieces here and there I've decided to upgrade the front and rear shocks.  I've been given a lot of advice about shocks from older Duc's that will fit but I was hoping the experts can clarify. I could easily go out and buy a new shocks but would like to get them from someone in the community or eBay that's parting out their Monster, I just have no idea what older Monster parts will fit my 08 Ducati Monster 695. 

So a question to the group, what older monster fully adjustable front and rear shocks will fit my Monster?

I saw this on eBay and thought it might work as it's from an 07 S4R.  Will it work?

Fit is such an ambiguous word.  All sorts of shocks and forks will fit, but will require varying amounts of machining etc.

I went for a Showa shock from a 999 superbike (with a new Ohlins spring to suit my weight) and forks from a 998 superbike (again with new springs).  They were quite a bit of work to get to fit.

As for the S4 shock, I imagine it would fit fine, but would probably require removal of the crankcase breather canister to clear space for the gas reservoir.

Most all forks from Monsters will fit with minimal work, but you probably want to stick with ones that use the same calipers (65mm spacing axial) as otherwise you'll have to buy new calipers, or an adapter.

WOW your Duc looks so sweet. Thanks for the link detailing your adventures in shockland.  I guess for myself, I'm looking to find shocks that will be a little less work and more of a direct fit if such a thing exists.

A shock from an '01 or '02 Monster S4 will bolt right in.

It's got a reservoir, but it won't interfere with anything.

+1, I've done this swap on my M800.  Had a local suspension guy refresh the oil, replace the progressive-rate stock spring with a straight-rate Ohlins, and add a Schrader valve for future nitrogen refills.  Added a 748 adjustable ride height rod and voila, a significant improvement over the stock shock setup.

FWIW, I used late ('99-'01) SS900 Showa forks to replace the stock Marzocchis.  No blingy gold sliders, but very nice function w/new oil.  Note that the stock bars won't work with these forks, though - they are proud of the top triple by 2-3".

Quick question, do all Duc rear shocks come with progressive springs? I'm trying to find a used 999 shock for my 695 and the eBay hunting will go faster if i don't have to wait for one with spring matching my weight

All Monster springs are progressive.

Not sure about SBK's.

The SBK spring won't work well regardless. They use a much lighter spring.

The linkage rate is entirely different.

I'd plan on the correct spring when you figure your budget.

I never did this, but was told from a reliable source that S4, S4R, ST4, S2R1000, ST2 forks will all bolt right up to 695.
