Ring Nut tool?

So as I was putting the front forks on, I have no idea how to torque down that ring nut underneath the top triple, you know, the flat washer looking thing with cuts on the side. So, temporarily, I just turned it by hitting it with a hammer and flat head till there was no play. Is there a specific tool for this job, and is there a torque spec? All I can find it info on the later model ring nut on top of the triple.

Thanks so much! Now, is there a specified torque amount for this ring nut? Or is it just until there is no freeplay left? Then torque the bolt on top of the triple?

I've also learned a few things in motorcycle and auto repair concerning a hammer "If it doesn't work, hit it with a hammer. If it still doesn't work, get a bigger hammer. If it breaks, it was meant to be replaced."

I haven't seen a torque value for the old-style setup.

With the front end off the ground, you should be able to turn the bars easily, but there should be a *little* drag.
Don't go too tight, and keep in mind that when you torque down the top bolt, it will tighten up the bearing a bit.
