I will probably need a new Speedo/Tach for my 2005 M1000.  When I bought the bike I could tell that there was some damage to the Speedo/Tach.  It had a small crack in it at the very bottom and some sort of glue had been used to repare it.  It isn't very noticeable although the needles do seem to vibrate a little more than most.

Today when I went riding, the Tach was reading 2,000 RPMs too high and the Speedo was 20 mph too high.  I noticed this right when I took off and it stayed this way during the 15 minute ride.  When I got back on the bike after a 15 minute break the gauges seemed to return to normal.

The local shop has a set of gauges for a 2007 S2R1000 that they say should fit no problem and it is there in stock.  The only difference is it has white background instead of the black background of my gauges.  It will cost at least $500.

What year gauges will work with my bike?  If I find a good condition used set can I switch these gauges out without problems from the ECU or is this something the shop will need to do.  They mentioned needing the red key.
