Broken stock rearset

So... The Kickstand comes back to haunt me. Went out to my bike after work and saw it on the ground. Seems like some punk wanted to touch, move, steal the bike somehow, but my alarm decided to go off and scare him off. Parking lot attendant came up to me and let me know he responded to the alarm, and no one was there.

Either that or a REALLY heavy gust of wind blew it off the stand.

Now I have a broken left rearset. It's cracked straight through in between the lower two bolts and right below the shifter, basically like aftermarket rearsets. Shifts fine, but I want to repair this without having to go through the insurance company. It seems I can do one of two things (I want to keep the stock style): Get a new one off eBay/DMF, or repair it.

It's cast aluminum, right? I know some good welding shops in the area, so hopefully I can have them fix it for a fair price. Is it fixable?

Cast aluminum can be welded, but it ain't cheap or easy.

Aww, crap. Any other ways to fix this? I don't do track days, aren't many twisties here, and I didn't notice any flexing when I rode it home, nor shifting it while on the rearstand.

I may have one I'd let go cheap if your interested, it's off an 02 620, will fit your bike though.
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

Looks like it might be behind where it's important for the rider- but it's hard to tell from that photo.... The rear section just acts as a passenger peg and support for the exhaust - it's not *needed* for the rider. Some folks have lopped off that rear section in the past.

My suggestion is to check ebay, wounded Duc (http://www.woundedduc.net/home.html) and here for folks selling the stock rearsets. Grab a set and be done. It'll be way cheaper than trying to weld I bet.

Cost me $10 to have mine welded at a local shop. Looks like shit, but it's hidden by my foot when I'm riding. Probably gonna get rearsets next year anyway.

FWIW, I sent a couple emails to the guys at WoundedDuc cause I wanted to buy a few things they had on the website. It's been about 6-8 weeks now and no response from them. I'd look elsewhere. I've had good luck w/ GRD Motorcycles in MD. They sell on ebay as well.
