oil turning green

hey guys im new here and this 2007 695 is my first ducati. when i first got it a few months ago the oil level was kinda high (above the sight glass and kinda green). i took it to the dealer to do some recall service and they had to drain the oil and refilled it for me. a couple days later i noticed it was above the sight glass and green again. i decided i should just change the oil anyways because i want synthetic oil in there anyways. so i put mobil 1 synthetic in there (now im sure this oil isnt green since im putting it in myself and its between the min and max line on the sight gauge). so a couple weeks later i check the oil level and of course its above the sight gauge and green again. this isnt normal is it? the only thing i can think of is fuel getting into the crankcase. also the bike only had 600 miles on it when i bought it. the previous owner said she barely rode it and it sat in the garage for over a year. also, i could tell she dropped it because the stock mufflers (replaced) had dents on them and one of the bar ends are broken off

You are correct...

there is an issue....

that has nothing to do with the bike being dropped.

If the bike is under warranty get it to the dealer.

If not, you most likely have a bad injector and will need to see an experienced tech to sort out which one...

whether that tech is at a dealer or not depends on where you are.

thats what i figured but why wouldnt i get a check engine light? wouldnt it be super rich?

It does have an O2 sensor, and you would think that it would sense something is wrong.

But, your oil isn't magically expanding, and you don't have a water-cooled engine, so fuel is the only possible culprit.

well the bike is 4 years old so i doubt warranty will cover it.  should i just go ahead and replace the injector?  i figured i should run a compression test.  whichever cylinder has a bad injector should have higher pressure right?  unless it turns out one of the cylinders actually has very low pressure...   :'(

A compression test is unlikely to be helpful. But if you MUST track this down yourself do it safely.

You could be dealing with an incendiary bomb, make sure you have a fire extinguisher and/ or get your 'bike outa yer shed and away from any other vehicles or property you would like to keep !  I'm one who learns from making mistakes.......


What I would do is remove both plugs and ground both HT leads so that there is no airgap for sparks - put a drill bit or similar in the spark plug cap and ground that securely well away from the plug hole so NO sparks can possibly happen.

Turn on the ignition and you should hear the fuel pump whirring awhile then stop. DON"T hit the starter button. Wait a minute or so, turn the ignition off and sniff at the plug holes. If one hole smells strongly of fuel that's the bad injector. Repeat a couple of times.

If there's no fuel smell hit the starter, let the starter crank the motor over for a few seconds, leave the starter alone but keep ignition on, see if one plug hole has a stronger fuel smell than the other, maybe stick a long cotton bud in to see if there's fresh fuel.

If there's no obvious excess raw fuel then switch off, get it on a trailer and let someone who knows what they are doing fix it.

That's what I'd be doing to MY 'bike in MY shed, others will tell ya different.

Or remove the injectors, place each in a clear container, power up the fuel pump and see if they leak.  If you don't start the engine there is no spark.  Do not buy injectors on speculation.  Yeah, out doors and an ABC or BC fire extinguisher nearby are a good idea, shit happens.

i was going to do that but those injectors look like a pita to get out.  i dropped it off at the dealer this morning so we'll see.
