The Bearded Duc

I don't know if this is in the right section so, mods, feel free to move it if necessary.

I was browsing Ebay and found this...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ducati-Monster-900-Billet-Shock-Swing-Arm-Hoop-Bracket-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4cf537d4a0QQitemZ330531591328QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_500wt_1182

I'm not sure if it's a good deal or not, but if it can be had for a decent price I'm sure it would make some "bling" enthusiasts quite happy. Hell, I wish I could add it to my "parts wanted" list!!

Drunken Monkey

Looks like a Rizoma hoop.

And not a bargain at the current $290 mark.
I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

garbage. buy a new S & P one for $300 that's cnc'd. the rizoma one looks forged.

Or just keep the stocker which is completely fine and save a few hundred dollars and installation hassle. What's the matter with the original hoop Ducati engineered for the bike? Is it somehow badly designed? If the Rizoma piece is lighter, which I doubt, it's not going to be lighter by much anyway. Certainly not $300 lighter. It's not really visible, and the nominal weight it could save if any won't be felt. It's just another totally unnecessary Rizoma bling part that costs too much. Doesn't even look cool, which is very unlike Rizoma. Won't impress anybody, won't make your ride more enjoyable or more secure, might make your wife angry. Save the $$$ for some real mods.

Rizoma ought to make their own motorcycles so real riders could enjoy more separation from the corksniffers.

For a component like that, I'd think a forged piece would be preferable to one that had been milled. Not as blingy, certainly, but probably markedly stronger. But...

But you also have to consider a aluminum hoop is going to be stiffer than the stock steel one

True. And a forged aluminum piece stronger still than a machined cast- or extruded- billet piece. If it's a rolled billet, then it's probably 6 of one and half dozen of the other.

I don't have a hoop-style Monster anyway, so it makes no difference to me.

It is a Rizoma.
In second pic near swing mount, there is a tiny R logo.
Looks exactly as the one I have.

My memory could be off, but I think the Rizoma hoop raises the rear a bit without installing longer Heim joints.

Slide Panda

Almost $300 and it didn't meet reserve. I think the seller is asking a bit too much. This is is the older hoop from rizoma, there's another on that they made later, and it looks likes there's some (cosmetic) damage to it...

i've got one similar to the S&P one. It is stiffer, lots in part to the much better top bolt connections to the rocker.   I don't think mine is really higher than the stock one by any substantial margin. Its a cool piece, wouldn't be something I'd be prioritizing though.
