'97 M750 Tank compatability

I've been looking for a tank to replace mine. I have a 97 M750, what other years tanks will fit on my bike.

Any carbie up to 99 with your stock seat.

Any carbie if you change to a later seat.

Why do we bother with FAQ's?

Thanks for the link to the faq. Very informative.

I'm mainly looking for a new one so I can experiment with some painting, and still have the stock one just in case I make a mess out of the new one.

If I change the seat to a later one, the latch is different. Can I change from the old style one to the newer style latch without too many problems?

I don't think you have to change the latch or the pin on the seat.

I would have to. My current seat has like a hoop and latch type thing, and the newer seats have the pin.

My 96 900 has the pin...

I didn't know of the hoop and latch set-up.

Just another weird thing about the 97 m750 I guess. It's the only one that I've ever seen with this setup. It's also the only one that I've seen that doesn't have clutch slave cylinder over by the front sprocket.

That was the first year for the M750. They used up the  old 750SS style motors, there were bunches of them, and then went to the later stronger cases which had the slave on the left side.

I just never knew the seat latch was different.

'98 M750 has the loop-style seat latch.

AFAIK, the external difference is you just stick the key in the lock, then push up on the lever.

Pin style seat latch is just turn the key, there's no lever.

The fitment problem between early and late carbie tanks is how the seat lines up where it meets the tank.
