strat10...back on subject for a moment...
though I would love to have this bike right now myself-this is an incredibly smart and purposeful track machine worthy of considering
http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=45776.0
but if you must have a SBK- there is also this one offered by a member here as well
http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=46369.0
I am also going to have access to going over a 996 SPS in a week or 2 for a widow of a friend for to look over and check over and take pictures of for to make ready for sale...

dude get a middle weight thats like 5-6 years old. like a 1st or 2nd gen R6, gsx-r, or cbr. they are soooo bulletproof for the track and can be had for about 2-3g allready nicely set up. parts are easy to find as are spares and they have plenty of power for a 1st trackbike. also anything that takes 180+ rears make it easy to find tire deals and eiser to find takeoff's from racers. SV's, Ducati's, rc-51's may sound nice but alot more goes into racing one than a stock 6 year old big 4. if you're spending money on trackdays only and not looking for a racebike to fit in a class its easy to find a bike. I teach at both a race school and track school and people ask all the time what they should look for in a track bike and i always say 1st or 2nd gen R6. I got 30,000 miles out of mine, 1/2 of them track miles, and its still at every trackday that i work passing newer 600's. If you're racing its a different story, then build a bike for the class you want to race, win the class on that bike, sell it, start process over[bacon]

Awesome advice from everyone here. I think I am back to buying a 600 or 750 japanese bike. I just think it will suit my pocket book better. I'm not what you would call mechanically saavy.

Personally, I wouldn't pay any extra for a 750, and would prefer a 600. But if one comes along at the right price, go for it. Oh, and no matter how good the price, don't get a literbike as a first trackbike. They're a lot harder to learn on.
You're in LA? Watch the WERA board and BARF for good deals.

I agree. the performance difference is little esp for a trackday/non race sted. wera has crazy deals. right now there are 2 ss ducs that are insanely nice bikes also there are plenty of 600's on there for cheep[bacon]

While stock SVs are practically bullet-proof, high HP SVs are notorious for breaking cranks.

bullet-proof and race bike are words that should never be in the same sentence. I've seen plenty of stock sv's pop too[bacon]
