I tend to regard most of humanity as little more than walking talking dilated sphincters. - Rat

It would be great if that column was wrong, but it isn't.
This isn't a dress rehearsal for life - this is it!

Some truth, mixed with a lot of bullshit.

-Freedom of mobility is being challenged?  How is that?

-The rise in price of commodities effects ALL auto manufacturers, not just American ones.

-Rocketing gasoline prices pushing Detroit to the brink of disaster?  Time to innovate more and produce more fuel efficient cars.  Again, all car companies need to do this, not just American ones.  Those who cannot innovate and compete, die.

-During WWII, all manufacturing was geared towards the war effort, not just auto manufacturing.  What the auto companies did was really great, but why do they stand out as special above the other manufacturers that participated.  And why would we still owe them anything for that.  Did they even have a choice as to what to manufacture?  Would it have made economic sense to them to continue to manufacture cars during the war?  In short, were they or other industries so valiantly noble and just during that time, or did their self-interest align with the governments and the economy during those years?

-Government leaders have turned their backs on the auto industry?  How's that?  With multi-billion dollar bail-outs to GM and Chrysler, facilitated by the government.  Turned their backs?

-"Words like sacrifice, discipline, focus and commitment."  Really?  Google "jobs bank" as it pertains to American automotive industry.  Sacrifice my ass.

Have to agree with the country being pitted against itself, short-sighted politicians, dumbing down of schools, and much of the other stuff.  Just really strongly disagree with the above stuff.

We live in an ever changing world.  Industries come and go.  Things change quick.  Look around.  Music stores are now a defunct business with the ubiquity of the iPod,etc.  Ipod was launched in the fall of 2001.  Book stores going bankrupt because of Amazon.com and the Kindle and other personal readers.  Kindle was launched in the fall of 2007.  How about Circuit City going down, and I'll bet that Best Buy will be crushed within a few years.  Why buy it in the store when you can order it online?

The more we make futile wishes for promises of job and economic predictability and security, the more we are going to sit around on our butts and pregnant dog about reality and reminisce about "better times" that never were but have since been marketed into existence.

Sorry, after reading this article, and one about Jon Bon Jovi saying that Steve Jobs killed the music industry because he longs for the time when he would go into a record store and be forced to pay $16 for an album that maybe had 1 or 2 good songs on it and the rest was just filler, I am feeling sick.
Ahh... but the servant waits, while the master baits.

If you drive the nicest car in the neighborhood, work in a cash business, and don't pay taxes, you're either a preacher or a drug dealer...
