Any bow shooters out thier

large gun fun thread, I was wondering if anyone gets into bow hunting or target shooting?  The quiet sport of shooting.  You can tell by my logo that is what I do.

I'm just getting into it, my grandfather gave me his old recurve and i'm headed an archery shop in the next few weeks to get a string/arrows and whatever else I'll need. Archery always interested me and now I don't have an excuse not to

I've always messed around with traditional stuff.  I have a reflex/deflex longbow that a friend of mine made that I like to shoot.  I bowfish for carp in the spring out of my kayak, which is challenging and fun.  I have a Martin compound with all the bells and whistles but I seldom shoot it. 

I did have the opportunity to shoot a static recurve "Hungarian" style horsebow - thinking about getting one of them and a younger horse to learn mounted archery together.  Shooting with a thumbring instead of 3 finger and the arrow on the right side of the bow is a little freaky at first.

I used to target shoot with a giant recurve (compounds are for pussies). Was pretty good, had fun doing it.

At least until one of the limbs suddenly parted company with the grip at full draw one day and almost skewered my head.  It may have if I hadn't had glasses on.

Turf : Good idea to have the shop check it out so you will not get skewered like Speedbag almost did.  Recurves are cool and fun to learn and if you hit your target it feels like an accomplishment.  I once saw a video of Fred Bear on a river with two canoes.  He was in one and the other had a wiskey barrel with the plug whole facing Fred.  It shows him putting arrow after arrow through the hole while standing in a canoe both bouncing around going down a river.  If it was made today I would say it was fake but it was 8mm film.

Nothing wrong with compounds, all depend on how far you want to go............

"Hungarian horsebow", Now that sounds like real fun.  Where the hell did you find that, is thier a club or organization?

Probably a range close by you that you did not no was thier.  Archers are good folks, about like Duc heads.  I would check Craigs list for used recurves, fairly common at least around here.

That is cool enough to post in the general but I might get reamed and start a rant about trying to corrupt the safety of young riders and girls driving Porsche's.

The guy on horseback is Lajos Kassai - probably one of the top two horse archers in the world.  The other is Novotney.  They are both bowmakers also.  The bow I shot was a Kassai Panther.  They are super smooth drawing and they do not stack until like 34 inches or more.  The arrow flight is quicker than a standard recurve of the same draw weight.  There are a pile of u-tube videos of these guys doing some incredible stuff. 

I don't know anything about the guy on the motorcycle, but it would be a good way to poach deer standing in the ditch!
