I've been hearing a friction type noise for quite some time now whenever in 6th gear. I couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from until I put my stock exhaust back on which is much quieter and allowed me to hear better while riding.

So....in 6th gear and only in 6th, I hear a friction type noise coming from the stator (left) side case.
I'm guessing it's the bearing, but not sure.
Any thoughts  would be much appreciated.
Bike is 2001 m900, btw.

thanks very much in advance

There isn't much else that rotates besides the two bearings and the alternator rotor.

I'd guess the bearing in the cover too.

I can't say for sure it's the bearing, but it's an inexpensive look and fix if it is the problem.

Once the cover is off you'll be able to tell if the bearing is bad.

that's pretty much what I figured. I'm going to drain the oil and pull the side cover off this weekend and have a lookee.

thanks again
