2004 S4R Is this the stock ECU?

While trying to troubleshoot a fueling problem this bike has, I examined the ECU. There is a sticker that has been placed over what appears to be the orginal sticker. The top sticker says "MS4RDUCATI030" nothing else. It looks like it was done with a typewriter like font. If I carefully peel back that sticker I can see what looks like an original sticker from Ducati. It has three lines of text and reads. Line 1 - "61601.047.01" Line 2 - "999" Line 3 - "Ducati016" There is also a barcode on this original looking sticker.

Is there a company out there reflashing old ECUs to resell them with new maps, and labeling them in this way? Anyone recognize that sort of numbering system?

The bike has an Arrow open exhast, no airbox mods, and what appears to be a stock, orginal Ducati air filter. The bike has 96 miles on it. Based on the soft, sooty, black buildup on the insiide of the exhaust and the carbon fouling on the plugs has been running rich for most of the 96 miles it has actually run.

As a disclaimer, I posted this question on a different monster forum a few wqeeks ago but didnt get much feedback. I am trying my luck here. :)

I've got an '05 S4R here that has that same "MS4RDUCATI030" sticker over the 'original' barcode sticker.

I'm pretty sure that's an OEM deal.

Cant you just look up the code number in the parts catalog for your model?

61601.047.01

Parts catalogues are readily available on the ducati.com site under the maintenance tab.

Speeddog

That number 61601.047.01 isn't a valid part #.

The ECU on the bike in my shop says 749 on the 'under' label.

I suspect Ducati was re-programming ECU's as needed, and slapping a new label on.

My '04 S4R is the same way.

Prolly just like Speeddog said about the factory re-flashing.

It's like I keep saying:  Those who would sacrifice a free range session for a giant beer, deserve neither free range time nor a giant beer.
