Just saw this last night.

Pretty good, not exactly the way I 'saw' it from reading the book, but entertaining.  [beer]

If you haven't read the book, likely 50% of the movie won't make any sense whatsoever.

Go see it, so that it does well enough that they do part 2 and 3!  :P

Saw it Saturday - you could tell that just about everyone in the theater had read the book the way people reacted to certain scenes.  I thought they did a pretty good job of adaptation.  Someone that would watch the movie without at least a little understanding of the book would be pretty perplexed though.  I heard it made 1.7 million the first weekend - ok for no advertizing.

It came in 14th on its opening weekend, making not quite 1.7million.  It trailed the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" sequel.  I'm not sure parts 2 and 3 will make it to the big screen.

It did not receive a traditional ad push, but was heavily promoted in alternate media tracks. The trailer premiered at CPAC (for one).

The reason I go to the movies is so I don't have to make the beast with two backsing read, so I guess I'll just go to this one for the Jujubes.  :D
Woohoohoohoo! Two personal records! For breath holding and number of sharks shot in the face.

The Architect

The nearest theater playing it is 90 minutes away.   :P

Sounds like a good reason to go for a ride.  [beer]

I most likely will not see it as ANY movie made out of a book I have read disappoints me without fail. And I really like this book.

So far, this one is not too bad as far as following the book.  It has been adapted and moved in time but I was not disappointed all in all.  Certainly not as bad as a number of adaptations that have been inflicted on us long suffering readers of books.  i.e Dune, etc.

"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." - John Rogers

ever since seeing that quote, i cant help but think of it anytime someone says anything about atlas shrugged. haha

Found out Saturday night that it was playing in my town.... didn't get a chance to go.  Hopefully it's still showing this weekend.

As for the box office take... it is estimated at $1.69 million in 299 theaters.   That's 1/10 of the theaters other movies showed in.

Not playing down here in Corpus Christi... sad times.  Great book.

As for the John Rogers quote... what a dumbass.
