help im wiring in a stebel horn and have a question

im to the point where the schematic says to go from the terminal provided with the horn, to the horn button. it shows the new 14 gauge wire traveling fromt he terminal, connecting to the old horn wire, which then travels up to the horn button.

another part shows something very similar, but going to the old horn wire, which goes to the battery.

that much i can do, but ,which wires from the old horn go to where? there is a black and a purple. they just dissapear into the wiring harness, so idea which is which.

can anyone help?

also, connecting a new 14 gauge wire to the old black or purple one might be tricky, they are waaay different sizes. 14 gauge is a lot bigger. i would the old horn wires are at least 20 gauge. tiny.

ive been using similar gauge wire up to this point with insulated male/female connectors, but this is going to be tricky. Should i just use a twist connect?

thanks for the urgent help, trying to wrap this up today

the black in a 12v is usually negative and the purple is the positive.

A stebel horn MUST use a relay otherwise you WILL fry your stock harness.

This is the concept, if you understand the basic rules then youll be fine.

When you hit the horn button (depending on how you want to wire it) will send power to the original horn. WIth the relay in place, the power turns on the relay, the relay opens the circuit and allows power from the battery to flow to the new horn.

If you dont do this, repeated heavy use of the horn will cause the stock wiring to heat up and eventually burn up and wear out.

the relay came witht he horn right? its red, has 4 prongs off of it? im pretty sure im good, i just had to go buy the fuse.

i got it all set up today after looking at the 696 electrical layout i downloaded.

one things weird though, the higher tone seems squeeky, might because i had no choice but to mount it on an angle. oh well, its not always like this, especially not if i just lay on the horn.

its hella loud!

No, no. THESE:

are Hella loud. Hella Supertone loud, to be specific. Advertised at 118 db. Dunno if they're quite that loud, but they'll get a cager's attention over his bumpin system, that's for damn sure. Sounds like a train coming across the tracks. Significant step up over the stock horn's polite "meep meep!"

And yes, that sounds like an automotive relay. It should have come with a basic wiring diagram. There will be "stock horn" positive (purple) and negative (black) and the other two posts will connect to the battery via an in-line fuse from the + terminal and a ground connection to the - terminal, the last two via "heavy" gauge wire.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

Subaru, nothing.

I'm getting a pair of these make the beast with two backsers for my Volvo.

Hitting them is the audio equivalent of saying I'M SORRY, I DIDN'T REALIZE YOU COULDN'T SEE ME.

I like to think of myself as a proactive driver, avoiding problems before they happen.

Occasionally, people need a reminder that they are not the only people on the road.

Some communication methods are more effective than others.

Since I've started riding motorcycles, I've become MUCH more communicative as a driver.

I've found that the most effective delivery system for flipping the bird is out the sunroof on my Volvo.

No one expects it.

Not only does the vehicle itself send out a vibe of "passive driver," coming out of the sunroof adds an element of "where the make the beast with two backs did that come from?"

can those Hella run off the stock wiring or do they require relays etc?

Buckethead

Relay. They come with one in the box, and there's a wiring diagram on the lid.

They recommend a 14 amp fuse, which is a shit-ton of 'trons.  :o

'Trons dont exist. they are just a way to communicate an idea.  ;D
