what's the consensus on painting "nice" exhaust pipes?  in other words, for those who have painted theirs, were they stockers, or a more pricey after-market set-up?

reason i ask, i've got a fairly nice remus system on my bike.  i wouldn't mind painting it black, but i'm wondering if that would be sacrilege and/or something i would regret.  any thoughts from the peanut gallery?

I was at Lowe's yesterday and saw they had a Rustoleum Automotive paints.  That also included the high heat 2000º F Primer, Gloss Black, Low Gloss, and Flat Black.  Priced better then the automotive stores have them for too.

I am really liking the sound of this.  Couple of questions please.

 - The bolts that hold my pipes in place are rough looking. The previous owner mentioned that if I were to take them off I would need to heat the bolt up (red hot) so that I do not break the bolt/head.  That make sense to anyone. I can't just torque the bolt until if comes loose?
 - Before you prime or paint do you need to prep the pipes in anyway (sanding or what not)?
 - How many coats are you guys putting on your pipes?

Thanks all.

do you mean the copper locknut on the head?  i've never done anything likethat. the stud may come out, but those are easily replaced.  just screw in another.

sanding will help because you will knock off any baked grime.  i used a brillo soap pad on mine and washed them at the same time (cold), then let them dry.  i didn't use primer.  i wasn't even aware that high temp primer existed.  i've found that high temp paint is far more adhesive than regular paint tho.

2 coats for me.  let the first one dry tacky and then go again.

So two days after I paint my pipes I get a major oil leak and my back tire flung oil all over my pipes so now I have large dark spots all over my pipes.. On top of that, she is unrideable till I get her fixed.
