So i was on my way to work having a grand ol time on my bike i was like 4blocks away from work waiting to make a left turn at a light and bam! The hit was not that major it was only like a light bump but it was strong enough to make me fall with the bike. So far from what i can tell the only damage to the bike is the clutch handle was bent, i think my gear shifter was bent aswell and thats about it. I got the insurance company involed since the guy was been a dick he was a taxi cab driver, i have never been in a accident before in a car or bike and i only have 1month with my 2004 ducati monster with 1month riding under my belt aswell. Could there be more damage to the bike that is not noticible? I was able to ride the bike home from work and i did not notice anything different in the bike while i was riding. Like i said the hit was not that strong i am hoping it will just be a quik fix so i can get back to riding, i wont find out what really is goin to happen till tomorrow after i talk to my insurance company. I am not hurt in any way just kills me that my bike which is practicaly new (only has 5647 miles on it and it was flawless till now) got damages. If anyone knows of a good repair shop in Los Angeles or around that area please let me know so i can get the bike checked out and they can tell me if anything else is damaged , i rather choose my shop before the insurance company makes me go to some random place.

Sorry to hear about your bad fortune. That sucks!!

You can get a replacement lever and shifter pretty cheap either from ebay or from someone on the forum.

As far as having the bike checked out, I recommend Nick (Speeddog here on the forum), you can PM him and see if he can check it out for you.

If the hit wasn't that bad I'm sure everything is alright but better safe than sorry.

Depends where you live in LA...if you are closer to Signal Hill (Long Beach area, Cherry and the 405), Scotty's MotoServicio is THE preferred mechanic for Ducati's in Southern California bar none. 562-981-0911

Yes - take it to a shop and have them look it over. While it's unlikely that there's any damage beyond what you have already spotted, there's still the possibility that a steering stop is damaged or you've missed something.

-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Interestingly enough, I was told yesterday that depending on the insurance company, a bike can be "totaled" if there are any scratches on the engine from an accident. That was a surprise to hear.

Ultimately, glad you're alright - sorry to hear that it happened so early on into your riding and while you were enjoying riding your nearly new Monster.

I'm glad you are ok and the damage to your monster is minimal.  Next time when you stopped at a light, tap your brakes, keep your eye on the rear view mirror and be ready to inch forward.

Glad you're not hurt and you were able to ride away. That said, if he hit your back tire, it's possible the tire moved. It might be out of whack and your chain might be loose now. That's something you might not eyeball when you're adrenaline fueled.

I'm assuming you have frame sliders. Check the frame grommets where the sliders thread through to see if they're bent or cracked. If they are, you may get a big fat check from the insurance as they would total the thing. They'll offer you two amounts, one where they take the bike and one where you keep it (ask about this if they only offer you a total cash out - "How much is the buy back?"). If it's something minor like scratches or a cracked grommet, you're far better off keeping it and doing repairs yourself. Depending on the state, you'll have to have it inspected to get it on the road again if it is totaled.

I dont think that the bike is totaled the engine has no scratches and i think the parts that are damaged can be fixed but i need to get it checked just to make sure everything else is ok.

I have the weekend off so thats when i will try and get someone to take a look at it. I have not found anyone yet. I will PM Speeddog and see if he can check it out, if cannot i will call Scotty and see what happens. Any more suggestions on who i can take the bike to are welcome just incase those 2 are too busy.

Thnx for all the concern and info guys! I hope i can get this resolved quick so i can ride my sweetheart again.

Just the piece of mind of knowing that someone took a good look at everything will do wonders for you when you start riding again.

Since you don't really care who looks at it, just go to whoever is closest. A dealer perhaps.

I went down on my SS about a year ago.  The tank got scratched on the edge, a dimple from the left bar and the front end was tweaked.  The brake lever and shift lever were ok.  All in all not that bad and still ridable.  After I got the front end realigned all was well - it seemed.  Then I missed a couple of shifts and thought I was being lazy.  But then later the shifting mechanism locked up with the transmission in 4th gear - about 80 miles from home.  It seems the accident stressed a spring in the shifter mechanism which later failed.  The shop repaired it with an upgraded part and all is well again.  By the way I made it home fine.  Once I got rolling, 4th gear was good for about 30 - 60 MPH and only hit a few "pink" lights.

Thats what scares me that i something might be wrong. Glad you made it home safe after taking some pink lights  [laugh]. I talked to the insurance company and everything will get rolling on monday, still i dont know how this works if anyone can explain the process or what i can do on my end to speed things up please let me know.

Yea it is a bad month for some of us. Well atleast i should have my bike in the shop with Nick over at Valley Ducati by the end of this week, i just wish these insurance people would call me instead of me having to call them 20 times.
